Here are tips that if followed should help you know what to for when you see a Wolfgang guitar sale.

A Wolfgang guitar sale – Which of the The Two Wolfgangs?

First when looking at A Wolfgang guitar sale, know which Wolfgang you are looking at. There are still lots of Peavey Wolfgang guitars on sale. Made from 1996 to 2004 these great looking instruments were designed by Eddie Van Halen and produced in the now legendary Peavey guitar center at Leakesville, Mississippi.

They only came in 3 basic colors Black, Ivory and a figured Maple top (the curly Maple or “Quilt Top” model was only available that first year. The other model years used a flame Maple top).

Later on Peavey introduced a lower priced Wolfgang Special and created a high-end custom shop which virtually hand crafted Wolfgangs to individual customer specs. The guitar prices were set for the beginner market.

However, once Eddie parted company with the folks at Peavey in 2004, he approached the master craftsmen at Fender in 2006; he had certain improvements in mind, especially concerning the Wolfgang guitar’s tonal quality.

The Fender model Wolfgang guitar comes as a result of over 35 years of Eddie Van Halen’s experience as both a guitar musician and designer. The new Wolfgang guitar went on sale in 2008 and instantly became a hit although

this new Wolfgang has a slightly higher guitar prices than the production Peavey.

This version of the Wolfgang guitar is thought to have better engineered pickups that were chosen after a grueling ten month trial and error search by Eddie and the engineers as Fender.

In the fall of 2006, the design team at Fender began the search for just the set of pickups that would create just the right Wolfgang guitar tone that Eddie, who has a legendary ear, wanted. Eventually after over 10 different prototypes, Van Halen approved a set of custom pickups designed by Fender engineer Seiki Goto.

The styling has many subtle differences, one being an open cavity in the back which allows the wood in the solid body to breathe naturally, which reduces any changes in the guitar’s tone as the guitar ages. It has 2 embedded graphite rods to help it stay in tune and reduce stress on the neck.

It is also considered to be “indestructible” according to Eddie. In an interview with CNN television, Van Halen said, “"During the last show, I actually tried to break a Wolfgang, and it wouldn't break. I picked it up and I couldn't break the damn thing. I threw it up in the air, and later put it out in the rain. I picked it up half an hour later, and it was still in tune. I was pissed."

Fender gave him 3 prototype guitars with various finishes, the tobacco burst, a black and a Wolfgang vintage white. Van Halen would play one or the other of the prototypes every single night on virtually every song.

No matter Wolfgang guitar sale you find, either one would make a great addition to your rock and roll guitar collection.
